One of the Detroit Red Wings' top prospect has no intention of reporting to the team
The Detroit Red Wings selected Dmitri Buchelnikov 52nd overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. The Red Wings had a very forward heavy draft last summer and Buchelnikov was a very important part of the draft. Unfortunately for the Red Wings though it seems like the Russian prospect has no interest in reporting to the team right now.
When Buchelnikov was asked about his intentions of reporting to Detroit, he gave quite the answer.
I don't think about it. I always wanted to get into SKA. That's why I joined the club three years ago. All my thoughts are only about SKA.
I try to make the most of every day. Of course, I would like to return to the KHL as soon as possible. I will be extremely happy about this.
Buchelnikov has scored 11 goals and added 9 assists in 18 games played in the VHL this season.
Over the last year there has been a change in NHL teams wanting to draft Russian talent, as they are unsure if players will report to North America. Could this be a case of that for the Red Wings?
