Back in 2018 in the final pre-season game of the year between the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues, Tom Wilson laid out one of his most dangerous and vicious hits as he knocked out Oskar Sundqvist. Sundqvist suffered a concussion and facial damage, resulting in him being out of action for a month. Wilson was given the biggest suspension of his career as he was suspended 20-games by the Department of Player Safety. Later it was reduced to 14-games through arbitration.
It was an ugly hit that nobody in the league seemed to agree with. With the St. Louis Blues and Washington Capitals being in opposite divisions, the two teams would not meet again until much later in the season. So, there was no one on the Blues who could get revenge on Tom Wilson in a timely manner. Oskar Sundqvist recently revealed that one of his opponents offered to fight Tom Wilson in retribution for the hit.
Such a bullshit hit. I'm gonna take him for you, don't worry buddy.
When the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues met, Marcus Foligno told Sundqvist that he thought what Tom Wilson did was «Bull Shit». Foligno told Sundqvist that he would take care of Wilson for him. It worked out perfectly as Tom Wilson's first game back after suspension was against the Minnesota Wild. True to his world Marcus Foligno dropped the gloves with Tom Wilson.
It's no wonder that Foligno is beloved around the league. It just goes to show that there is a true brotherhood in hockey, no matter where you play.
