The Ottawa Senators are now preparing for the worst after receiving MRI results for Josh Norris. Ottawa Senators coach D.J. Smith said Josh Norris will be out «long-term» and isn't confident he'll play again this season.

Norris suffered a shoulder injury in the Senators' win over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Norris lined up to take a defensive zone face-off against Travis Boyd. After taking the draw, Norris awkwardly fell to the ice and stayed down for a few moments before skating to the bench.

Norris has dealt with left shoulder injuries a couple of times in the past. He required surgery and missed six months following the 2019 World Junior Championship. He also missed another 15 games for the same shoulder last season. Despite that, Norris still led the Senators with 35 goals in 66 games in 2021-22.

The 23-year-old has one goal and two points in five games this season.Norris is in the first season on an eight-year, $63.6 million contract, which carries a $7.95 million cap hit, signed in July.

This is a huge blow to the Senators season. Norris was averaging 18:35 in ice time and is a crucial member of the top six.

Pierre Dorion is already reportedly looking at potential replacements after receiving today's news.
