Pat Maroon is the perfect depth forward, he's physical and he isn't going to cost you on either end of the ice. He also has an uncanny knack for winning Stanley Cups, having won 3-years in a row. It's all of those intangibles that make him special, but it's his physicality that makes players keep their head on a swivel.
During tonight's game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings, Gustav Lindstrom, the Red Wings' rookie seemed to forget about Maroon. After Lindstrom received a pass behind his own net, he took one too many steps while carrying the puck.
Maroon, likely aware of the rookies inexperience took the opportunity to close the gap and absolutely bulldozed the 23-year-old with a perfect body check.
Despite the physicality the Red Wings would hold on for an upset 4-3 victory. The loss ends Tampa's 2-game winning streak and likely ends any chance of the Lightning securing home ice advantage in the post season.
