Hockey can be a tremendously emotional sport. If you needed any convincing, you wouldn't have to look any further than the Memorial Cup semi-final game between the Western Hockey League Champion, Seattle Thunderbirds and the Ontario Hockey League Champion, Peterborough Petes.

After the clock hit zero, Petes Captain Shawn Spearing dropped to his knees and was visibly dejected as his teammates and coaches came to his aid to console him. Understanding that the four year veteran of the Petes organization did all he could and left it all on the ice, as he and his teammates came up short in what was his last game for the organization.

Being involved in the game itself as a whole as long as an individual like Spearing has can be a blessing and a curse. You've not only developed a love for the game but for the people who have helped you along the way, the teammates you've skated beside and the fans who have accepted you as their own within the organization they cheer for.

Whatever Spearing decides to do moving forward in his life, it is evident that his experience with the Petes and the Ontario Hockey League as a whole had a lasting impact on him that he'll carry with him for the rest of his life.
