Philadelphia Flyers top prospect refuses to report to development camp or sign with team
Daniel Briere has been working hard it overcome all the challenges left behind by the Flyers previous regime. Briere has tried to rid the Flyers locker room of any negativity. While he's worked hard to move players like Tony DeAngelo and Kevin Hayes, one issue he still could face is with top prospect Cutter Gauthier.
This week the Flyers hosted their annual development camp and notably absent was Gauthier. Gauthier has already made it clear he plans on returning to Boston College for next season and not signing with the Flyers. When asked why Gauthier wasn't at development camp Briere gave a rather unconvincing answer.
Cutter was invited, declined to come. We're assuming that is because he's played a lot of hockey with the World Championship, lots of travel. We're not too worried about that.
With Briere simply 'assuming' why Gauthier is absent hasn't left Flyers fans with a lot of confidence. Gauthier attended Flyers camp last season, and as a NCAA player there are restrictions on what he is allowed to accept from his NHL rights holder. While Flyers fans shouldn't be too concerned today, there will certainly be some concern should be not sign an NHL deal this spring.
