Yanni Gourde of the Seattle Kraken will need to successfully argue his case, or he's going to be missing some time. The NHL's Department of Player Safety has announced Gourde has a phone hearing for a hit on Mattias Ekholm of the Edmonton Oilers.
"Seattle's Yanni Gourde will have a hearing today for charging Edmonton's Mattias Ekholm."
The hit happened late in the third period of the Oilers 4-2 win over the Kraken. Ekholm was retrieving the puck behind the net when he was hit hard by Gourde. The hit caused a huge scrum in front of Seattle's net with Gourde coming out of the pile with blood around his eye.
Gourde was given a five minute major and a game misconduct. Ekholm was not hurt, and was given a two minute minor for roughing on the play. Gourde was in the penalty box before getting tossed, and Ekholm proceeded to tell him exactly how he felt about the hit.
According to Elliotte Friedman the league is going to issue a 2 game suspension to Gourde
Sounds like 2 for Gourde.
