Player hits linesman in the face with his stick after being called for a penalty
Manitoba Moose forward Evan Polei could be facing a lengthy suspension after his temper got the best of him Friday night. The incident happened Friday night in a game against the Texas Stars. After Polei is called for a penalty he heads to the box and angrily swings his stick.
As Polei tries to make contact with the boards his stick strikes the linesman in the face. The linesman was able to remain in the game, but Polei received a game misconduct for this play. While the contact was clearly unintentional he is responsible for his stick at all times, including when in a fit of rage.
While you would think that one sticking swing would be enough, reportedly as Polei left the ice he broke his stick after a second swing. He then proceeded to throw his stick into the crowd. Expect the AHL to look at this play and for a suspension to follow.
