Player suspended indefinitely after striking a fan (Video)
The ECHL has quite the reputation for being somewhat of the Wild West. While some players look to develop and grow, others find themselves having peaked and are simply trying to prolong their professional hockey careers. Unfortunately for one fan though he encountered a player who is slightly unhinged.
Mikael Robidoux is a 23-year-old QMJHL alumni currently playing for the ECHL's Allen Americans. During a game on Saturday against the Wichita Thunder, things became heated between the two teams. After Robidoux was called for goalie interference he blew his top, at which point he was issued a 10 minute misconduct.
That's when things took a turn for the worse. As he was skating off the ice a fan in the stands said something to a heated Robidoux. Unfortunately he didn't handle it well and he immediately struck the fan who appears to try and grab his stick.
The league reacted quickly and sternly to this action announcing that Robidoux has been suspended indefinitely pending a hearing on the matter. Surprisingly after this incident Robidoux was able to return halfway through the 3rd period. It's likely the forward will face a lengthy suspension for these actions.
