This should be an interesting watch for hockey fans. Amazon Prime has released a trailer for an upcoming documentary that features the story of a first-overall pick who was supposed to be the next NHL superstar, but ended up a massive bust.
"Chosen One: Alexandre Daigle" will be released on Jan. 26, 2024. Daigle was chosen first overall by the Ottawa Senators in 1993, and was supposed to drag the team out of the basement, while becoming the league's next big star.
"Following a remarkable start and with all eyes on him, Daigle failed to live up to the unattainable expectations. Now, decades later, following a turbulent career on the ice, Daigle reflects on how he navigated the gap between people's projections and his everyday existence, revealing the pressure and internal turmoil of not living up to the impossible hype."
Daigle ended up playing for Ottawa, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota Wild throughout this career. His best seasons were in Ottawa in 1993-94, and 1996-97 when he scored 51 points. Daigle reached the 51 points mark again with the Minnesota Wild in 2003-04, but the rest of his years were plagued by lacklustre point-production and disappointing play. He finished his career in Switzerland, where he played for four years.
