On Wednesday, Insider Frank Seravalli updated the condition of Red Wings' defenceman Mark Pysyk, who had re-injured a surgically repaired Achilles' tendon.

Pysyk was signed by the Red Wings this off-season to a one year, $850k contract. He was injured during the offseason when the surgery was completed to repair the tendon, so it's an unfortunate setback a quarter of the way through the season in which Pysyk hasn't played a game with his new team.

Pysyk is a 30 year old veteran of the league, playing most of his 521 games with Buffalo in two stints, along with a few years in Florida and one in Dallas. Notably, he's one of a few defenceman around the league to be used as a forward, as he was in Buffalo.

His timeline to return to the Red Wings is unclear at the moment, and would perhaps be unlikely that he would this year. It's a tough injury to a journeyman trying to survive another year in the NHL. All the best to Mark.
