Scary situation in Anaheim
The Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks are currently facing off in a preseason game. Unfortunately for everyone involved the game has become secondary as Ducks defenseman, Urho Vaakanainen has suffered a serious injury. Vaakanainen fell hard into the end boards and was immediately in distress.
Ducks defenseman Urho Vaakanainen was just carted off on a stretcher after skating into the end boards behind the San Jose just after Derek Grant scored a goal 9:46 into the game. Scary incident. Entire team skated over to check on him in obvious concern.
Looking at this, you can see that Urho Vaakanainen got twisted as he made a play in a hard push to the net. Appears he hit his head into the boards.
The officials immediately called for medical personnel, who almost immediately called for the stretcher.
Vaakanainen was placed on the stretcher in a neck brace and was taken to a local medical facility via ambulance. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time.
