During tonight's game in Washington between the Maple Leafs and Capitals, Alexander Ovechkin took a hard fall into the end boards. On the play Ovechkin gained a clear breakaway against Maple Leafs' goalie, Erik Kallgren. While Kallgren was able to stop the initial attempt, it appeared Kallgren's stick got tied up in Ovechkin's feet.
The contact tripped up Ovechkin who fell hard into the end boards. The collision appeared to drive Ovechkin's left shoulder hard into the boards. Ovechkin stayed down on the ice before being helped up.
Ovechkin went straight to the lockerroom after the collision and the Capitals made the following announcement immediately after:
