The Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Ottawa Senators inside Scotia Bank Arena tonight in what was the latest version of the Battle of Ontario and things didn't go to plan.
With the Senators leading 5-2 late in the 3rd period, forward Claude Giroux unleashes a rocket to beat Ilya Samsonov after toe dragging around the Leafs diving defender.
Giroux takes the puck away in the neutral zone, makes Rasmus Sandin look foolish as he goes down to try and knock the puck away and ends what's been a miserable night for Toronto and their fans.
The Leafs may be one of the top teams in this league, but playing down to the competition, having no defensive structure and relying heavily on their offensive power is what's going to kill them come playoff time.
Claude Giroux is enjoying what is most likely the twilight of his career in Ottawa and making one of Ottawa's greatest rivals look silly in the process.
