When the Tampa Bay Lightning traded Ryan McDonagh to the Nashville Predators, they received Philippe Myers and Grant Mishmash in return. When the Lightning acquired Myers, many in the industry felt they would buyout Myers. Buying out Myers, would exploit a hole in the salary cap, that would give the Lightning a salary cap credit.
The Lightning ultimately decided to retain Myers services, but now they may wish they hadn't. After 11 games Myers hasn't really found his footing in the Lightning lineup. Myers is currently only averaging 12 minutes per minute. Now today the Lightning have made the decision to waive Myers.
Myers is in the final year of his current 3-year contract paying him $2,550,000 this year. However, the Lightning did sign Myers to a one year extension with a cap hit of $1,400,000. If he clears Myers is expected to be sent to the Syracuse Crunch.
In other waivers news, Kieffer Bellows, who was placed on waivers yesterday, cleared waivers today.
