The Department of Player Safety announces punishment for Buffalo Sabres player after cross check
Last night in a game between the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins things got out of hand when Sabres forward Jeff Skinner cross checked Penguins forward Jake Guentzel after he took exception to a couple of extra taps on Anderson. He was assessed a 5 minute Major on the play.
The NHL Department of Player Safety has announced their punishment for Skinner on the play, take a look:
Buffalo's Jeff Skinner has been suspended for three games for Cross-checking Pittsburgh's Jake Guentzel
I have to say, I don't always agree with the department of player safety, but this one is pretty cut and dry. Intent to injure on Skinner's part.
Skinner is by no means a dirty player on most nights, but the first cross-check in my opinion is fine, the second one right right in the face is a no no.
Although, if this is the precedent you set for this type of play, I would expect the league to stick to it, which more often than not, they don't.
