With the World Juniors recently concluding in 2022, and many of these young stars returning to their Junior and AHL clubs, there are other chances on the horizon.

As the NHL and NHLPA will be rescheduling the World Cup Of Hockey to 2025, due to world events.

With the current conflict in Ukraine, the NHLPA and NHL want a chance to have the ability for Russian players to participate in the World Cup of Hockey.

It was recently speculated in 2019, that a World Cup of Hockey would resume in 2021, depending upon whether the NHL CBA would be renewed or extended. However, with the Pandemic shaving profits and time out of the NHL regular season, planning had to change.

In 1996, the Canada Cup was officially replaced by the World Cup of Hockey. The Canada Cup trophy was retired. The tournament expanded to eight teams: as the national teams of Canada, United States, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and Sweden, popularly dubbed as the Big Six,[4] were joined by Germany and Slovakia. The United States defeated Canada to win the inaugural event.

Eight years later, the second installment of the World Cup of Hockey took place in 2004, just prior to the 200405 NHL lockout. Canada won its first tournament championship, defeating the Czech Republic in the semifinals and Finland in the final match.

With the IIHF banning Russia from International Events, the NHLPA hopes pushing the Cup to another year will change things, and who doesn't want to see Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin maintaining their rivalry on an international stage?
