Things in Vancouver go from bad to worse as team plans to healthy scratch 13-year NHL veteran
While it's been evident for a while that a tire fire continues to burn in Vancouver, it appears that management is about ready to move on officially from one of their top tier players, at least if making him a healthy scratch is any indication.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson who is in the fourth year of a contract that pays him an AAV of $7.26 million is expected to be a healthy scratch Thursday as the Canucks visit Amalia Arena and the Lightning.
Two years into his contract the defenceman has six goals and 48 points in 119 games played. While OEL has a contract that will be difficult to move and a restructured No Move Claus built into his contract, it may do both parties good if they mutually part ways however it may be easier to move a player like Tyler Myers who has a modified NTC and has two years at $6,000,000 per season left.
The news about Ekman- Larsson comes on the heels of reports that Head Coach Bruce Boudreau's job is in jeopardy. Boudreau took over the Canucks from Travis Green in 2021-2922 and helping the team to a 32-15-10 record in fifty-seven games to round out the season. This year Vancouver sits sixth in the Pacific division with a record of 17-20-3, good for 37 points.
