In the final minute of the Edmonton Oilers versus Washington Capitals game, Capitals' Alex Ovechkin got away with a blatant hooking penalty with his team's goalie pulled. This play was clear as day and was clearly a last ditch attempt to stop the Oilers from sealing a victory.
With an empty this hook should have resulted in an awarded goal, but the referees had no issue with the play. The Capitals were then able to capitalize on this opportunity as they scored with under 1-second remaining on the clock to send the game to overtime.
Luckily for the referees, Connor McDavid scored the winner in overtime to win this game for the Oilers, but this blown call needs to be addressed at the highest level.
