Moments ago, NHL insider Chris Johnston broke the news that the Niagara IceDogs of the OHL would be facing a list of punishments after team members were found guilty of bullying and harassment in an investigation conducted by the league.
It seems that two players in particular, Joshua Rosenzweig and Landon Cato were the offenders that violated the league's bullying and harassment prevention policy. Although it was just two players, the team from the top down will face significant penalties.
The team itself will pay a $100,000 fine, surrender their next first round draft pick, General Manager Darren DeDobbelaer will be suspended for two full seasons, and the two offending players will be expelled from the OHL permanently.
It's a show of force from the OHL's strict policies against such conduct, which has run rampant in Canadian junior leagues for far too long. With such penalties like this, offenders of racist, sexist, or otherwise discriminatory conduct are clearly not welcome in the OHL, and rightly so.
