On Friday, during a game between HV71 and Djurgrden IF of the SDHL HV71 captain Sanni Hakala crashed into the goalpost and had to be stretched off the ice. The game was then suspended and the player was immediately taken to hospital.
Today, according to Hockey World Wide on there's been an update on Hakala, and while the injuries appear to not be life threatening, it's far from good news.
Hakala is awake and breathing, but cannot feel her legs and is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the incident on Friday.
It is still early, hearing that Hakala might be permanently paralyzed is something you never want to see. This appears to be just a really unfortunate outcome.
Our thoughts are with the Hakala family as they undoubtedly wait for more information on her condition.
