Bogdan Potekhin, 31, played his entire pro career in the KHL until last season, when he dropped down to the VHL, a lower Russian league. It was announced today that Krasnoyarsk Sokol had dropped him, despite being one of the team's top scorers.
Potekhin won two Gagarin Cups as a member of Metallurg Magnitogorsk in 2014 and 2016. He was also a member of a team that won the Kharlamov Cup in 2010, Russia's top junior hockey prize. Why he needed the sticks has not been made public.
