Wild fight breaks out stands of college hockey game, leading to the game being cancelled
A game at the Allen Americans College Classic tournament was called off early on Saturday after fans went at it in the stands in the first period. The matchup was between the University of North Texas and East Texas Baptist University, and saw UNT up 1-0 when a skirmish involving several fans broke out.
The University of North Texas released the following statement regarding the altercation:
during today's game between UNT and ETBU, a physical altercation occurred in the stands right behind the Mean Green bench between a UNT fan, extra ETBU players and ETBU's head coach. The UNT hockey team had no involvement, and ETBU's actions were unjustified. Further actions have been taken due to this, and we will provide more information at a later date. No further comments will be made available at this time
a head coach getting involved in any kind of fight in the stands is unacceptable and they should no longer be allowed to coach, the fact that extra players from ETBU also jumped in just adds to it. On any hockey team, coaches are supposed to be role models of sorts and this kind action is reprehensible
