Just a couple of weeks after winning his second Stanley Cup, this time as a member of the Florida Panthers, tragedy has struck the family of Vladimir Tarasenko. According to reports out of Russia, former player and coach Sergei Tarasenko, who is the father of Vladimir, has passed away at the age of 55.
"Andrei Tarasenko is a native of Novosibirsk. In his youth, he was a player for the local SKA, and then for many years he defended the colors of Yaroslavl Torpedo and Togliatti Lada, where he was recognized as the top scorer and most valuable player of the Russian championship. In the 2001/2002 season, Tarasenko returned to his hometown and helped Sibir reach the Super League, scoring 75 points in 67 matches."
Following his successful hockey career, Andrei Tarasenko joined the coaching staff of the KHL's Sabir Novosibirsk, where he has been for several years. No cause of death has been reported.
After winning the Cup with Florida, Vladimir Tarasenko signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. His first Stanley Cup came as a member of the St. Louis Blues in 2019.
