Tom Craig, a field hockey player from Australia, has had all of his Olympic village privileges revoked after he was arrested by officers in France for buying drugs

An athlete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris has been tossed from the games after a post to social media appeared to show him buying cocaine. Tom Craig plays field hockey for the country of Australia. All his Olympic privileges have been revoked, and he's no longer eligible to play.

Police officers in Paris, France arrested Craig after after a photo surfaced on social media that showed someone that looked very much like him buying cocaine. Craig has admitted that he made a huge mistake, but managed to avoid a criminal conviction despite the fact that the police report notes he ran from officers.

"Hockey's high performance director Bernard Savage said when he finally met Craig in custody before he was released he was in a bad way.

'He was dishevelled. He was tired. He was hungry. He was stressed,' said Savage.

But 18 hours earlier as he and Kookaburras teammates celebrated, he was shocked to be caught trying to buy drugs, with Savage admitting he had attempted to flee police for a short period of time by running away."

9news.com in Australia notes that Craig has made his own statement admitting to his actions. He apologized to everyone involved with the team for "embarrassing" them.

"I made a terrible mistake and I take full responsibility for my actions.

My actions are my own and by no way reflect the values of my family, my teammates, my friends, my sport and the Australian Olympic team.

I've embarrassed you all. I'm truly sorry."

Craig heads home to Australia with a "probationary criminal warning for drug use," which means it won't end up on his permanent record if he can stay out of trouble.
