Oliver Kylington nearly 2 years of his professional career dealing with off ice issues. As he battled mental health issues, it was unclear if he would ever return to the NHL. But after missing the entire 2022-2023 season, Kylington finally battled back playing a 33 games last season.
His return was considered a monumental success and appeared that he had finally turned the corner and was ready to continue continue his professional career. After last season Kylington was scheduled to become a free agent and the Calgary Flames had shared. They had interest in bringing him back. The Flames, reportedly offered him a contract before he hit the open market to which he declined.
Reports had indicated the initial offer was for one year and under the current cap hit of $2,500,000 that he was currently making. On advice from his agent, he reportedly declined the deal seeking a 2-year contract closer to the $3,000,000 that was offered to Timothy Liljegren.
Unfortunately for Kylington it appears that he made a major mistake on advice of his agent. At this time he has been unable to find a multi-year contract or an NHL contract at all for that matter. After battling back, it would be great to see him get another opportunity in the league. But this is just another example that sometimes your agent doesn't have all the answers.
If Kylington is to remain the NHL it is expected he will have to sign a one-year contract with a low annual value.
