The fallout from the debacle at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft involving Jeff Marek continues with word that his friend and the supposed individual he leaked information to has been let go by the Ontario Hockey League team that he had been employed.
Mark Seidel the Barrie Colts director of scouting was informed recently that the team has decided to go in a different direction and will not be renewing his contract.
While it's still unclear what if anything Marek or Seidel did could be constituted as wrong, and at least Seidel has maintained his innocence, both are out of jobs heading into the hockey season.
Seidel who sent an email to the Barrie Today newspaper released the following:
While he has been mum on what occurred between Marek and himself he gave some background on his history within junior hockey and scouting through several texts. Seidel has held several jobs within the junior hockey circle including scouting opportunities.
However, through these numerous opportunities, he was never able to hold onto a position very long. He was let go by the Minnesota Wild after Wild scouts raised the alarm on why he was a member of the staff.
The only thing that's painfully obvious is that two people are out of a job for alleged nefarious activity. Did something that shouldn't have happened occur? Yes. Was it worth a couple of people losing their jobs? That's up for debate. While it seems that Seidel has done some shady things at times and it probably warranted dismissal the question that everyone should be asking, is, why now and not before?
