Barry Trotz and the Nashville Predators issue statement on Yaroslav Askarov leak of potential trade request
Early this morning. NHL Insider Kevin Weekes turned to his X account to share the news that Nashville Predators prospect Yaroslav Askarov. According to Weekes, after signing Juuse Saros to an 8-year extension, Askarov made the decision it was best for his career to move on.
While it was known there was an Askarov trade request , Weekes took things a step further sharing the goaltender had no intention of reporting for camp either
It didn't take Nashville long to issue a statement, immediately acknowledging the rumor and its validity. While in the past. Most teams do not address this matter general manager Barry Trotz felt it important to address the matter.
The team issued the following statement via John Glennon of The Athletic :
We are aware of the report today and our expectation is for the player to report to training camp and compete for a job in September.
It appears the situation in Nashville might be far more complicated than anyone had hoped. It will be interesting to see if the team tries to get something done before the start of training camp in an attempt to avoid any distractions. Given the situation, it is hard to believe the team is able to acquire any sort of substantial return.
