Connor McDavid left Monday's practice early under Kris Knoblauch, and that changed the feel around Edmonton in a hurry.

The scare came when McDavid stepped off in the middle of the session and went straight to the training staff, according to Ryan Rishaug's report.
That's the part that lands hard for the Oilers. There were no visible signs of an injury, but an early exit from practice is still enough to rattle a team this late in the year.
McDavid isn't just another name on the sheet.
He has 38 goals and 116 points in 71 games, which tells you exactly how much offense walks off the ice with him.
And this isn't happening in a quiet stretch of the season. Edmonton is in a tight Pacific race, and the margin for error gets thinner fast when your captain suddenly leaves a skate.
"McDavid left practice part way through and is in with trainers. Didn't look like he was injured but we'll follow up with Knoblauch after skate."
The timing adds even more pressure because the Oilers are already dealing with concern around Leon Draisaitl's status. That's not a small side story.

Kris Knoblauch now owns the biggest call

If McDavid misses any time, Knoblauch has to rethink the top six, the power play, and late-game matchup work right away.
That's where this story jumps from practice note to real lineup issue.
McDavid also isn't dragging into the week on empty production.
He put up 13 points in 10 March games through the latest split, so Edmonton was still leaning on him every night.
Even his usage shows the load. He logged 22:42 in the Oilers' most recent game listed in the season data, which is a big chunk of ice for a forward this time of year.
That's why the next update matters more than the practice clip itself. Edmonton can survive a bad morning skate. It's a different story if this turns into a missed puck drop time.
For now, the only honest read is that the Oilers took a scare, and everybody noticed. When the captain leaves early, the whole bench feels it.
Knoblauch will be the one everyone watches next. Until he says more, this stays where it belongs: front-burner news in Edmonton.

Should the Oilers sit Connor McDavid even if this looks minor ?
