Brett Pesce was one of the top available defenceman among the 2024 free agent class, but now he's officially off the market as he's agreed to terms to join a new team.
In a post on X on Monday, Chris Johnston of TSN announced that Brett Pesce has signed a six year contract in the range of $5.5 million per season with the New Jersey Devils.
"When Brett Pesce's free-agent deal is finalized with #NJDevils, it's expected to come in at six years with an AAV in the $5.5M range." Johnston said.
Pesce, 29, was selected 66th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2013 and has spent his entire nine-year National Hockey League career with them until this point, but now he's wanting a new challenge.
Last season, the Tarrytown, New York native appeared in 70 games during the regular season with Carolina in 2023-24 where he put up 13 points (three goals, ten assists), 20 penalty minutes and was a plus-ten. He went on to add one assist in two games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This a massive addition for the New Jersey Devils who was in need of a top-four defenceman heading into the opening of the free agency period on Monday. Only time will tell how Brett Pesce fits into Sheldon Keefe's system next season.
