After the hype built for a home World Juniors tournament in Ottawa, many fans were excited about the potential of Team Canada in 2025, but ultimately, idiotic roster decisions and poor discipline plagued this team all the way to missing a medal for the second straight year.
Unfortunately, the issues go much deeper than the product put on the ice, as the kids have been the one copping most of the blame, but given the way the higher ups led the way, it's very hard to blame the players on the ice for their performance.
Now, hockey personality Don Cherry has offered one major suggestion as a way to improve things with Hockey Canada, including implementing full-time coaches throughout the junior ranks to keep things consistent all year long.
One of the biggest issues with the whole Hockey Canada system was the politics involved in the roster build, and while a full-time coach may not be able to fix that, it would certainly give the opportunity for players to earn their spot on the roster, rather than being passed over because of who their agent is or which NHL team they're employed by.
This makes Cherry's suggestion a great and very simple one, and one that Hockey Canada need to take on board, but if they continue picking a roster that's not as good as it could be and taking coaches that simply don't know what they're doing, Canada may be doomed to mediocrity for quite some time.
