However, according to top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, while Vegas is a team to monitor, it's the Carolina Hurricanes that are expected to push all their chips in for Marner this summer, and with no expiring deals of their own to look after and plenty of cap space, they could also give him a historic offer.
Recent reports however revealed that if Marner leaves Toronto as expected, he's likely to not play on another Canadian team and head to the West Coast, with that second factor potentially ruling out the 'Canes.
Ultimately, there's going to be few, if any teams that outbid Carolina for the biggest star on the free agency market, and while that doesn't mean that they'll land Marner, it means that if they don't, they will have done everything in their power to do so.
