Joey Daccord is in a very unique situation, but with the Kraken goaltender needing to choose his international alegiance, he's shocked fans by doing just that.
While the Seattle Kraken struggled for much of the 2024/25 season, goaltender Joey Daccord once again showed why he is considered one of the most promising young names in the sport.
With the 2025 IIHF World Championships on the horizon, this left him with a tough decision that's been looming for quite some time, with the 28-year old needing to make a huge decision.
That decision is between Team USA and Team Canada, as he was born in the USA to Canadian and Swiss parents, meaning that he's a citizen of all three countires, with many expecting him to choose between Team USA or Team Canada.
Now, that decision has been made official, as he has been named to the United States roster for the IIHF World Championships alongside
Jeremy Swayman and
Hampton Slukynsky.
As mentioned, there is still a path for Daccord to one day be eligible for Team Canada, but that would require many years of meeting specific requirements, and as of right now, it's more likely than not that the USA is the only national team he will play for in his career.
With the likes of
Connor Hellebuyck and
Jake Oettinger in front of him on the United States roster, many expected him to choose Team Canada, but after growing up in the USA, Daccord's love for the country made it clear what team he would ultimately end up choosing, so while we may see changes one day, don't expect Daccord to play for anyone else, anytime soon.
