Hockey Canada President Breaks Silence and Addresses Fan Backlash After 2025 WJC Failure
Hockey Canada have been under fire for the past few weeks after their decision making heading into the World Juniors, and now their President has responded.
After years of immense success, Hockey Canada has hit an all-time low this past two years, as the team have failed to even compete for a medal at two-straight World Juniors tournaments.
Despite this, Head Coach Dave Cameron somehow defended the decisions they made during the 2025 event in Ottawa, despite other Head Coaches calling him out for some of the most ridiculous decisions made at the tournament.
While that's filled plenty of Canadian fans with fear for the future, it appears at least someone is willing to change, with Hockey Canada President Katherine Henderson addressing those fans that bought tickets expecting to see Canada fight for a medal.
Anyone who bought a package is going to see unbelievable hockey, said the president and CEO of Hockey Canada. While it feels unthinkable, it certainly has happened in the past. There was a time when Canada came eighth. So what you do is you go back and you look at where are we right now, what is it that we've done in the past that we should no longer do, and what should we do more of?
That sentiment was echoed by Senior Vice President Scott Salmond, who singled out the selection process for the team as the issue that needs to be looked at closest.
Salmond: "We'll look at our selection process for sure. We'll look at how we build teams. ... Skill. We'll be criticized and probably should be criticized about how this team was constructed."
While the play on the ice was bad, the roster selection and coaching decisions were the thing that most fans found frustration with, and while the brass at Hockey Canada are saying the right things publicly, only time will tell if things truly change ahead of the 2026 World Juniors in Minneapolis.
