When Jake Guentzel was traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Carolina Hurricanes, I think most people thought that he would find a way to sign a long term deal with the Hurricanes. Now it appears that he will be testing the free agent market July 1st.
With that being said insider, Jeff Marek of Sportsnet has an off-the-wall prediction of where the prolific scoring forward will go, it's not somewhere anybody would've seen coming.
Merrick mentions That the San Jose Sharks could be a contender to land Jake Guentzel Because of their need to surround top prospect, Will Smith and likely first overall pick in this years draft Macklin Celebrini.
The Sharks certainly would have the cap space to give Guentzel an offer he couldn't refuse and the ability to have them play with relatively skill players. I'll be at in their first seasons in the National Hockey League.
We'll have to see where this goes, but if the sharks come out of nowhere and sign, Guentzel, Don't say, Marek didn't warn you.
It would be interesting to see a player of Guentzel's calibre play with two of the most exciting young players to come out of their respective draft years.
