IOC approves creation of Olympic Esports Games
In the 142 years of existence of the International Olympic Committee, the organization has been known to turn some heads by making some good decisions as well as some bad decisions. The decision that they just made is either a head-scratcher or something that a person who sits on their couch playing video games has dreamed of their entire life.
The IOC announced recently the approval of the Olympic Esports Games and while the National Hockey League isn't expected to be included it's a monumental and exciting decision which could change the landscape of the Esports community as well as the Olympic community forever.
While there has been no indication of what games will be played during the Olympic Esports Games it is being speculated that League of Legends, Rocket League, Street Fighter, Tekken, iRacing, NBA2K, FIFA as well as other mobile games.
The above list includes three sports games, with no mention of the NHL franchise and while NHL 25 is unlikely to be included with the NHL GWC on hold it would be in the best interest of hockey if the sport was exposed in this IOC-sanctioned event.
Whatever the IOC has in store for ESports tomorrow or in the future, it's a guarantee viewers and Esports aficionados are in for a treat.
