Jersey worn by Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore sells at auction
A Boston Bruins jersey worn by Adam Sandler in 'Happy Gilmore' has reportedly sold for a massive sum at an auction this week.
Happy Gilmore is arguably one of the best sports movies ever made with a cast featuring the legendary Adam Sandler, as well as Carl Weathers, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald.
This week, a Boston Bruins jersey worn by Adam Sandler in Happy Gilmore went up for auction and sold for quite a lot more than the auction house was expecting. On their website, Propstore Auction estimated that the jersey would sell from anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000 USD.
The jersey, which was screen-matched to the scene where Happy Gilmore is participating in his first tournament, The Waterbury Open, sold for a whopping $40,950 USD.
"Happy Gilmore's (Adam Sandler) screen-matched Boston Bruins jersey from Dennis Dugan's Happy Gilmore. This jersey screen-matches to when Happy, an aspiring ice hockey player, wore it during his first golf tournament, where he demonstrated an aptitude for the sport that frightened reigning champion Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald)." Propstore Auction said in the listing.
While a release date has yet to be announced, a sequel to Happy Gilmore was announced by Netflix back in May, with Adam Sandler set to reprise his role, while Nick Swardson, known for his work in The Benchwarmers, Grandma's Boy and Blades of Glory, is reportedly being casted as a caddy in the film. Christopher McDonald is also expected to be in the film, reprising his role of Shooter McGavin, Happy Gilmore's rival on the tour.
The now 28-year-old movie is a classic and must-watch for any sports fan or fan of Adam Sandler's work. It'll be hard for the sequel to top the original film, which was released in February 1996, but fans are certainly excited to see Adam Sandler in one of his iconic roles in the coming years.
