While we know the return won't be with
the Chicago Blackhawks, many teams are believed to be in the mix, with
Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger reporting that the Winnipeg Jets will be one of the frontrunners when the time comes.
On Thursday, LeBrun revealed that Toews could now fill the team's search for a second-line centre, especially with
Adam Lowry set to miss the start of next season after undergoing surgery.
However, the Toronto Maple Leafs are also believed to be in the running. LeBrun noted that the Leafs are among the teams Toews would be «willing to consider» in his return to the league, music to the ears of Leafs Nation.
Toews is familiar with current Oilers GM Stan Bowman
The Edmonton Oilers could also be in the running as another Canadian team interested in the former Blackhawk, seeing that Toews' former GM in Chicago, Stan Bowman, is now the general manager in Edmonton.
Toews was then informed by general manager Kyle Davidson prior to the team's final game of the season that he would not be brought back for the next season.
In August of 2023, Toews announced that he was stepping away from hockey to deal with "long-COVID."
Toews would be a fantastic addition to any NHL roster, with the three Stanley Cups he won with the Blackhawks.
He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2009-10 and the Frank Selke Trophy in 2013. He has played his entire career with Chicago.
He recorded a total of 372 goals and 511 assists, for a total of 883 points in 1,067 games.
