Major update on Sidney Crosby and a new contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins
After rumours were circulating that it wasn't a guarantee that Sidney Crosby was going to sign a contract extension with the Pittsburgh Penguins, it took a turn.
Sidney Crosby has been the face of the NHL (although Connor McDavid might have something to say about that) and the face of Pittsburgh Penguins franchise since he was drafted. In fact there was never a time where his future with the Penguins was in doubt. However after a contract extension was not announced on July 1st The speculation about wether Sidney Crosby was going to leave the Penguins would run rampant.
According to Rob Rossi of The Athletic, there's a major update on how contract talks are going between the two sides, despite those rumours at the start of Free Agency.
«The team and player are confident a deal will be agreed upon and formalized soon, the sources said.»
An update on Sidney Crosby and Penguins contract situation.
Crosbys always been loyal to the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise, but many thought there would be friction between him and new general manager, Kyle Dubas, despite that it seems that he has re-stated his commitment to the city of Pittsburgh and the organization as a whole and stated that he would like to finish his career where it began and not move.
Crosby and his longtime agent, Pat Brisson, have kept a mostly tight lid on contract talks with Penguins general manager and president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas. During those discussions, the sources said, Crosby reaffirmed to Dubas what he has repeatedly stated publicly that he wants to finish his career with the Penguins, who selected him No. 1 in 2005. The potential deal is being viewed by both sides as «a commitment to Pittsburgh,» a team and league source said.
It's not surprising that Crosby has taken this dance, both publicly and in private, but I'm sure it'll give the fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins a little bit of an opportunity to take a breath and not have to worry about losing their franchise cornerstone.
Of course the deal still needs to get done, but everything appears to be in line for that to happen.
