At 35 years old, veteran NHLer Max Pacioretty is looking for a bit of a new start this season. The last couple of seasons have brought long stretches of downtime due to injury, and Pacioretty is hoping to show he can still hang in the NHL as he enters the last phase of his career. Despite captaining the Montreal Canadiens for a decade, Pacioretty says he has no trouble putting in the Maple Leafs jersey, and even got in a dig about his former team in the process.
Max Pacioretty told reporters not only is it not weird to don the jersey for a former rival, his kids think the Toronto Maple Leafs jersey looks much better on him.
Max Pacioretty definitely has something to prove with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's the reason he took a professional tryout with the team for training camp, rather than signing a full-fledged contract right away. In the last four seasons, he has not played a full 82 game schedule due to injuries, and had to deal with a torn Achilles tendon twice in 2022 and 2023.
Pacioretty has already reached the 900-game mark for his NHL career, scoring 330 goals and 668 points. The last time he reached the 20+ goal mark in a season was 2020-21 with the Vegas Golden Knights.
