Earlier this year, the police finally shared the results of their investigation related to the 2018 Team Canada Junior scandal.
Indeed, back in February, the whole hockey community got to know the five players who would face charges for the terrible crime allegedly committed.
Since then, all of them were let go by their NHL organization; meaning the Philadelphia Flyers parted ways with promising goaltender Carter Hart, the Ottawa Senators let go of Alex Formenton, the Calgary Flames ended their association with Dillon Dube, and the New Jersey Devils had to cut ties with both Cal Foote and Michael McLeod.
It was widely believed that their hockey careers would be over, but a new development shows that the players are still welcome in the hockey community.
Make no mistake: the five players won't return to the NHL before the end of the legal procedure. However, other leagues don't think that way.
In the KHL, teams don't mind getting controversial players, and one of the five players charged in the 2018 Team Canada scandal signed a contract in that league.
Like Dillon Dube a few months ago, Michael McLeod has signed a contract with the KHL.
In recent years, it's been obvious that players banned from the NHL like Evgeny Kuznetsov, Alex Galchenyuk, and 2018 Team Canada members can join the KHL, as the Russian league doesn't care at all about their horrible actions.
With the trial set to go down in 2025, further developments about the Team Canada Junior scandal are expected to be released in the coming months. Stay tuned.
