There's been a new development regarding the legal case of the Gaudreau tragedy.

A few days before the start of this season's training camp, a massive tragedy struck the hockey world: Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew both passed away after being hit by a car during a bike ride by Sean Higgins, who was driving drunk at the time.
In a new development, the prosecutors trying to send Higgins to jail had to try to keep out the Gaudreaus' blood alcohol level, saying that many witnesses stated that Higgins' actions alone caused the collision:
"Multiple witness accounts show that it was the defendant's actions and his actions alone that caused the collision that led to Matthew and John Gaudreau's deaths.

The contents of the toxicology reports and the way the brothers were operating their bicycles on the day in question are irrelevant."
The question is irrelevant, and even disrespectful, in my opinion, considering all the harm caused by Higgins.

Sean Monahan's Touching Testimony on the Gaudreau Tragedy

Sean Monahan, who signed with the Blue Jackets last summer to play with his friend, was devastated when it happened.
He opened up for the first time on how it went down at the time in an interview on The Athletic.
First, he talked about how Gaudreau convinced him to sign in Columbus, and how tempted he was by the idea of raising their kids together:
"I'd get 40 (texts) a day from him some days, I swear,» Monahan smiled. «He was so excited. I was so excited. Our families were excited.

«We were looking forward to playing together again, of course. But we were both really excited to raise our kids together."

Then, he spoke about his reaction after learning the news:
"It was obviously devastating. We didn't leave. We couldn't leave. We took a couple of days, and then we drove down and got Leo situated in Columbus, and then a couple of days later, we went to Philadelphia to see Mere (Gaudreau's wife, Meredith) and the kids.

Life went upside down.

I didn't know what was going to happen. I was in Columbus for a while and I couldn't bring myself to the rink. It was hard.

«I was pushed to come to the rink by a few of the people around me, and once I got here, it really helped me out to be there. I had a lot of support from Mere. She's a very strong person, and that's something that helped me get by."
After hearing such a powerful testimony, it's hard to put the blame on the Gaudreaus for what happened. It's a bold move from Higgins' lawyers to go after the Gaudreaus' BAC, and hopefully, it won't change the verdict.
