Ahead of Game 3 of the second round playoff series between the Carolina Hurricanes And New York Rangers, there was a surprising development for the Rangers as Filip Chytil who hadn't played since November 2nd while dealing with head injury, was not only on the ice warm-up but dressed and played in the game just over six months after the Rangers said his season was probably over.
According to the New York Post's, Mollie Walker, head coach Peter Laviolette had a surprising update on the 24-year-old forward who did not Participate in morning skate; take a look.
This is interesting because Chytil has had issues with concussions for most of the season and that's why he's been sidelined, but the coach mentioned he felt pretty good after Game 3 and didn't start feeling the effects of an illness until this morning. The other thing that's odd about this that you'll notice has happened in the playoffs already is that instead of calling it an injury or anything like that, Laviolette mentioned that Chytil was sick, like the Toronto Maple Leafs did with Auston Matthews during the first round of the playoffs.
This is certainly a tough break for the young forward but the good news if you're a Rangers fan is, he hasn't been ruled out for the game just yet and instead is being labelled as a gametime decision.
We'll see what happens, but if Chytil can't go, it's a very unfortunate situation all around. Hopefully he's able to get back in action before too long the lingering effects of concussions as we've seen can careers prematurely if that is indeed what he's dealing with
