Every year the NHL awards the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.
The trophy is named after Bill Masterton, the only player in the history of the NHL to die due to injuries suffered during a game. Today the league announced this year's winner of the trophy, Connor Ingram. Ingram who played this season for the Arizona Coyotes is the perfect winner for this award.
Ingram has been very open with his struggles with mental health issues. Ingram has been very open about his battle with OCD and depression ,which nearly forced him into an early retirement. Ingram turned to the NHLPA assistance program at which time he found help and was able to turn his career around.
