The NHL Department of Player Safety has made an official decision on Connor McDavid's dirty cross check in last nights game against the Vancouver Canucks.
Two nights ago, against the Vancouver Canucks, the Oilers were trying to tie the game, and with only a few seconds left, Connor McDavid was ejected for cross-checking.
It all started when Connor Garland tried to take out McDavid for the remaining seconds of the game by taking him down on the ice.
McDavid didn't appreciate it and lost his temper after a few seconds. He hit Garland in the face with a violent cross-check.
If you missed it, check out how it went down in the video below:
After the game, Garland opened up on the incident, saying he wanted to prevent the Oilers captain from scoring:
"I'm just holding him. I mean, he's the best player to ever do it. So, the time's running out. And I just thought that was maybe the best way for us to win a game was to do that. I don't want to hurt him."
The Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch talked about the incident in his post-game press conference:
"Absolutely, there's a rivalry and Connor gets frustrated. He gets his stick up, and he's frustrated because we're down one goal and the best player in the league is getting held for 15 seconds. And there's frustration that's allowed to happen, and the stick got up, and yeah, so that's what happened."
Many fans were eagerly waiting to see what consequences the captain could face, and the League has made its verdict.
The NHL DoPS has officially given its verdict on both McDavid's and Myers. They will both serve a 3 game suspension for their actions.
