Patrik Laine of the Columbus Blue Jackets has definitely had a tough couple of years. After dealing with injuries, and the death of his father, Laine recently took a leave of absence from his team to work on his mental health through the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance program. A remark about his absence has caused Laine to respond on social media, while the person who said it has said she didn't know what it meant.
While on the B & B RoundTable show, a weekly podcast on the Columbus Blue Jackets, the hosts were discussing the recent injury bug to hit the team. Here's what the person said.
I'll be honest with you; I had never heard of this term before listening to this clip. However, it was clear what the host "Zach" meant when he said, especially taking Laine's leave into account. It's a horrible comment, and one that anyone with any compassion whatsoever wouldn't use. The comment got back to Laine. Here's what he had to say.
There's no word on whether the person who said it will face any repercussions. It's weird how some people don't see professional athletes as regular people who face the same problems many others do. Whatever you think of Laine as a player, he doesn't deserve this. The comment was disgusting, and an apology should be issued.
