An absolutely wild scene broke out in Philadelphia as players for two field hockey teams ran to the back, and spectators were told to hit the floor while several gun shots could be heard going off in the background. It happened Saturday at Temple University.
La Salle, another Philadelphia school, is playing it's home games at Temple University this season. The women's team was facing off with Saint Louis when shots started. Right in the middle of play, the video below shows players gradually realizing something is wrong, and then there's a mad dash for a nearby building, while you can hear another voice telling spectators to "get down right now." You can also see an official take a bad fall after she appears to trip over one of the nets.
The New York Post reports the noises that shut down the game were indeed gunshots, with police confirming an incident nearby. No victim could be found.
Temple News has confirmed no players, officials or fans were hurt in the incident. The match, which was in the fourth quarter, was cancelled and La Salle was handed an official 1-0 victory.
