The manslaughter case involving former NHLer Adam Johnson, who was killed when a skate blade cut his neck during a game a year ago, has been updated by police
Today, the suspect in the case has his bail extended again, this time to Jan. 20, 2025 as police say they are doing everything they can to make sure they have all the information required before a decision is made.
"We have been working meticulously to fully understand the unprecedented circumstances in which Adam sadly lost his life.
This complex investigation into Adam's death remains ongoing and we are continuing to work closely with the Crown Prosecution Service.
Our thoughts remain wholeheartedly with Adam's family at this time."
It looks like this is not the norm in most investigations that take place in England. In order for bail to be extended over 12 months, which it not has been in this case, exceptional circumstances must be argued successfully by the prosecution.
Adam Johnson played a total of 13 games in the NHL, all of them for the Pittsburgh Penguins. After a season in Germany in 2022-23, Johnson joined the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL for 2023-24. He took part in seven games before the fatal incident on the ice in a game against the Sheffield Steelers in November of 2023. Johnson's number 47 was retired by the Panthers.
