Ron MacLean Draws Major Backlash From Fans After Recent NHL Announcement
The NHL recently announced a new 12-year media rights deal for Sportsnet, and in the announcement, fans brutally roasted veteran NHL personality Ron MacLean.
For some, that's a positive given things won't be changing, but for others, especially after seeing the fantastic coverage provided by Amazon Prime, it's a very tough situation as Sportsnet's coverage has grown stale after years of no changes and no improvement.
Perhaps the biggest example of that is Ron MacLean, who once hosted Hockey Night in Canada with Don Cherry, but since Cherry's firing, he's remained on as a constant host with the network.
He also hosted the announcement event that involved Gary Bettman and some big names in the hockey world, and unfortunately it didn't go well for him, as fans lamented the fact that they'll need to put up with MacLean for years to come.
Unfortunately, while other networks are bringing in former players to add insight and personality to their coverage of the league, Sportsnet stick with MacLean, who is incredibly outdated and actively drives away fans, and they continued to make that clear on social media.
With people like Paul Bissonnette and even Sportsnet's Kevin Bieksa or Ryan Leslie as potential options to be the host of the network going forward, the company continues to stick with MacLean, and it's clearly not working.
We will see if any changes come soon, but for now, fans are sick of hearing old time stories from MacLean instead of updated, funny and enjoyable coverage of the league, and until that changes, they'll continue to draw criticism.
