After having one of the best opening shifts in his first game ever, Matthew Rempe returned to the Rangers lineup for tonight's game. Matthew made his debut Sunday night against the New York Islanders in the Stadium Series game, where he fought Matt Martin on his first shift as an NHLer. Well, he may be an enforcer, but a rookie mistake made tonight may cost him dearly.
The Rangers are playing the New Jersey Devils tonight. A storied rivalry; the fans and players hate each other. Rempe happened to be charging New Jersey's Nate Bastian, who had his head somewhat down against the boards trying to move the puck. Matthew flew in and nailed Bastian right on the head and dropped his stick, fell to his knees, sort of dazed with his hands in front of his face. He then fell back down on the ice.
Rempe received a major penalty for roughing after a review.
Matthew is young, but he cannot be making hits like that. He should know better. Even though it's a high-stake game, Rangers vs Devils, he can't let that get to him and do stupid stuff.
This may raise an eyebrow or two from the Department of Player Safety as well.
